• Mathematics and Science Instruction: Content Measurement and Recommendations

  In this course the participants will learn about the Third International Mathematics and Science Study, with a special focus on the mathematics lessons analyzed in the Videotape Classroom Study. The participants will learn about the objective observational methods that were used in this video study to analyze and compare the different teaching methods, the classroom routines and activities, the math content of the lessons, and the level of student achievement. The participants will then identify the best teaching practices, as revealed by the video study, and then analyze and compare their own teaching methods to see how close they are to the TIMSS recommendations. Participants will also learn about current efforts to align the US mathematics and science standards to the international curriculum.

• Introduction to computer programming for handheld consoles (GameBoy Advance)

  • Instructor: Calin Galeriu

  In this course you will learn how to install the DevKitPro programming environment and how to use it for computer programming in C. You will learn about the hardware architecture of the GameBoy Advance console, and how to read from the input (buttons, link port) and write to the output (video, sound, link port) of the device. Finally, putting all of these together, you will write your own game for the GameBoy Advance.
